Micro and Small enterprises (MSEs) can receive 75 percent financial assistance (up to Rs 18,750) from the government to update or enhance their use of global standard bar coding. The Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (DC-MSME) is providing the assistance to increase MSEs global competitiveness.

MSEs with an entrepreneur memorandum acknowledgment number from the Directorate of Industries or District Industries Centers and a registration with GS1 India for bar coding are eligible to apply, Madhav Lal told the SME Times.

Bar coding benefits businesses by offering product information that can simplify supply chain logistics and help increase quality assurance through product traceability.
